The latest news from Washington D.C is really good for the people in Nevada. On March 20, 2009, Senator Harry Reid from Nevada made a very important announcement.

Senator Harry Reid announced that more than $72 million have been released in the form of the federal grants by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) of more than $72 million in federal grants. This grant has been released as an aid to the fight of removing the devastating effects that the foreclosure of homes has left on the people of Nevada.

The backgrounder

The news is a result of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act that was supported by Senator Reid last year. By incorporating this act, the government has clearly shown their awareness for supporting the population of Nevada in their problems.

Distribution of grant

The Senator also stated that the grant will be divided across the state. Some major benefactors will be Clark County, the cities of Henderson and Las Vegas. Clark County will be given more than $22 million in grants. Las Vegas will be receiving a grant of $14.7 million. On the other hand, the city of Henderson will get somewhere around $3.2 million. The rest of the $24 million will go to the state. These grants will surely boost the efforts, of fighting foreclosure all over the state.

What will happen now?

The grant is being provided under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Under this program the money will be provided to the state as well as local governments. This money will help them to acquire as well as develop some foreclosed properties. It will help to avoid the properties from becoming abandoned.

The foreclosure assistance money will also be used for other purposes. It will be used to help the homebuyers with low as well as moderate income to pay their down payment as well as the closing costs.
