While the government is attempting to bring down the number of foreclosures for sale in the country a recent survey has provided more insight into this housing crisis by pointing out to some main factors which have resulted in home owner’s defaulting on their mortgages and landing up with a foreclosure notice. One of the major reports released by the survey links the key cause of foreclosures with the home owner’s personal situations rather that to the lending crises.
One of the surveys have been carried out on 500 home owners who are facing an impending foreclosure and has found that 75% of the defaulters have gone through financial crises due to a professional or business crunch with 60% losing their jobs last year. While the job recession market has been reported to be the chief cause of financial crisis amongst the homeowners, another primary reason for defaulting on their mortgage was due to unexpected and heavy medical bills which have put undue pressure on the homeowners who had to subsequently face a foreclosure notice as they were unable to make timely payments.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development is also working with various agencies who are currently working on counseling projects for home owners on the prevention of foreclosures. One of the agencies has also stated through its survey that there are various factors apart from the lending trends which have resulted in the steady surge of foreclosures in the U.S. One of the top analysts at the firm has been quoted as saying that there is an urgent need for looking at the various indicators such as work situations as well as the family’s medical health issues in order to help home owners tackle their mortgage problems successfully.
The positive results achieved by the judiciary councils foreclosure prevention programs, shows that there is need for further enhancement in support programs that can reach out to home owners facing financial crisis. One of the most important aspects that have come out in the various surveys is the paramount need to merge all the above indicators while helping home owners with foreclosure prevention and counseling. There is also a greater need for creating an increased awareness amongst home owners about the various support systems and schemes that are available through the various housing departments all over the country.
Real estate researchers believe that if property owners are aware of foreclosure assistance programs including the various financial benefits launched by the state and federal housing departments the increasing rate of foreclosed homes can be brought down successfully.
